A QUICK START

One board. Everything fits.

  1. Tap a domino to rotate it. Each tap turns it a quarter turn clockwise. Each half fills one cell. A blank is zero.
  2. Drag it onto the board. You can also tap a cell for its first half. Keep tapping the domino, use Rotate, or press R to turn it again.
  3. Follow each region’s rule. Dominoes can cross region borders. Every domino must be placed and every region satisfied.

Tap a placed domino to select it, then rotate, move, or return it to the tray. Use Undo freely. There is no timer limit or penalty for experimenting.

Hints highlight a region, explain candidate eliminations, reveal a move, then place it. Revealing the full solution ends the board as practice.

Keyboard: Tab between controls, arrows between cells, Enter or Space to select/place, R to rotate, Escape to deselect.

Daily puzzles reset at 00:00 UTC. Solve any difficulty on its actual day for a streak. Archive and revealed boards do not count.

Pick a piece.

Tap a domino to rotate it a quarter turn. Each half has a value from zero to six. Keep tapping until it faces the way you want.

Find its place.

Drag it onto the board, or tap a cell for its first half. The other half takes the neighboring cell. You can cross region borders.

03

Make it all add up.

Fill every cell and satisfy every region’s clue. A number is a sum; = means equal values; ≠ means all different.

What is a Pips puzzle?

A domino logic puzzle. Cover the board with the supplied dominoes so every colored region satisfies its condition. The challenge comes from balancing the values on both halves of each piece.

Can I play unlimited Pips for free?

Yes. Choose Easy, Medium or Hard and select New puzzle whenever you want another original board. There is no account, subscription or play limit.

Is PipsPlay the official NYT Pips game?

No. PipsPlay is an independent practice game with original generated boards. The daily challenges and archive here are PipsPlay puzzles, not New York Times puzzles or answers.

When does the daily puzzle change?

Three new boards, one per difficulty, appear every day at 00:00 UTC. Solving any daily difficulty on its actual day extends your streak. Playing the archive does not change it.

What if I get stuck?

Move, rotate or return placed dominoes freely. Hint highlights a region; Explain compares candidates and their consequences. You can then reveal or place a suggested move. Revealing a complete solution finishes the board as practice.

Will my puzzle be saved?

Your current boards, moves, hints, active playing time and personal results are saved in this browser when local storage is available. There is no cross-device sync.
