A small guide to the symbols.
A region’s clue applies to all the cells inside it. Each half of a domino contributes only to the region underneath that half.
A number · Exact sum
Add every value in the region. The total must equal the clue exactly. Zero counts as a cell but contributes nothing to the total.
When one cell remains empty, subtract the values already placed from the clue. The difference is the value you need.
A three-cell region labeled 8 can contain 1, 2 and 5. It can also contain 0, 4 and 4. Repeating values is allowed unless a different rule says otherwise.
= · All equal
Every cell in the region must have the same value. The equals sign does not require a particular total, and it does not mean neighboring domino ends must match across the whole board.
2, 2, 2 satisfies an equal region. So does 0, 0, 0. A region containing 2, 2, 3 fails.
≠ · All different
No value may occur twice anywhere in the region. This applies to all its cells, not just adjacent ones. A double domino cannot lie entirely within a different region.
Only seven values exist, from 0 to 6, so a region larger than seven cells cannot satisfy this condition.
0, 2, 5 and 6 are all different. The sequence 1, 3, 1 fails even if the two 1s do not touch.
<5 · Strictly less than
Add the pips in the region. The total must be below the displayed number. Equality does not count.
For <5, totals of 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4 work. A total of 5 does not.
>3 · Strictly greater than
The total of the region must be above the displayed number. Unlike the different rule, repeating a value is fine as long as the sum is large enough.
For >3, a two-cell region containing 2 and 2 works. A region containing 0 and 3 does not.
· · No condition
Any pip values may fill this region. The cells must still be covered by complete dominoes without overlaps. You can use free regions in the creator to leave room for a domino’s other half.
The board still has to fit
A valid sum does not rescue an invalid placement. Every domino must cover two neighboring cells and every cell must be filled exactly once. Dominoes can cross region borders.
These are the rules supported by this version of PipsPlay. Even, odd, prime, no-six and product conditions are not part of these boards.
