A little space for a good puzzle.
PipsPlay is a place to enjoy the satisfying moment when the last piece fits. Play one board over a coffee, practice a tricky rule, or make a challenge for someone else.
Original boards, familiar logic
Our boards are generated for PipsPlay. Each begins with a complete tiling, and its region conditions are built to admit that arrangement. The game then accepts every complete arrangement that meets the same rules.
PipsPlay is independent of The New York Times. The daily puzzle and archive here contain PipsPlay originals, not official NYT boards or their daily answers.
A daily ritual that stays put
Three boards are released at 00:00 UTC each day. The same date and difficulty produce the same puzzle for every player. Published puzzles use a versioned schedule so they remain stable when the site evolves.
The archive begins on September 1, 2026. There are no invented player counts, global completion rates or leaderboards. Statistics describe your own completed games in this browser.
Tools for curious players
The solver checks whether a puzzle has one solution or several, estimates its reasoning difficulty and explains individual moves. The creator can share either kind of solvable puzzle.
New unlimited puzzles and curated daily boards have a verified unique solution, counting matching domino copies as interchangeable. Difficulty is estimated from direct deductions, checks of their consequences and deeper searches. Earlier archive boards and focused practice can have multiple solutions; every valid completion is accepted.
A small, open development trail
